In Memoriam — Katherine (Kitty) Goodish

Katherine (Kitty) L. Goodish of Tubmill Creek Farms, New Florence, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26 surrounded by family. She was the loving and dedicated wife of John H. Goodish, retired Chief Operating Officer of U.S. Steel and current owner, along with their two daughters, of Tubmill Creek Provisions in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.

Kitty is survived by her loving husband of 51 years and their three children, Jonathan (Pam), Emily Cook, and Amanda K. (James) Goodish; as well as five grandchildren, Anja, Caleb, and Joshua Cook, and Maggie and Matthew Goodish. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Walter Clinton, of Houston, Texas, and her sister-in-law Carolyn (Brice) Hartley.

Born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to George W. and Gladys Schussler, Kitty graduated from Chartiers-Houston High School in Houston, Pennsylvania. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Maryville College in Tennessee and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught at Venetia Elementary School before retiring to raise her own children. She was so dedicated and loved by her students that her entire first-grade class at Venetia Elementary had a special part in her wedding.

Kitty and John spent several years in Kosice, Slovakia, through U.S. Steel where Kitty was active in charity work at a local orphanage and helped organize community events for expats. In more recent years, Kitty most enjoyed mowing the 20 acres of grass on their farm properties and spending time with friends and family at the family store in Ligonier where her presence brightened everyone’s day. She will be remembered as one of the kindest people many have ever met, a truly wonderful person.
